<p>You don’t always associate the Army of weapons and ammunitions with fashion and apparel. But then, if the topic is about the City-based Army Institute of Fashion and Design (AIFD), you’ve got to take notice. <br /><br /></p>.<p>Especially, when it is about “Design Dapple 2013,” the institute’s annual fashion show that rocked at the Chowdiah Memorial Hall here on Thursday. <br /><br />The eighth batch of students from the Institute’s Post Graduate Diploma in Fashion Design programme and sixth batch of BSc Fashion & Apparel Design (FAD) ruled the ramp, presenting their designs created on a theme for each collection. The design was judged in two categories, Best Designer wear and Best Creative wear. Another award was given to the best outgoing student. <br /><br />Models sashayed on the ramp, showcasing a thousand colours and hues. Eventually, it was the turn for prizes. And the Best Designer Award was won by Karthik Obly, while the Best Creation Award was bagged by Gunkiran Bhuttar. The best outgoing student trophy for the year 2013 was presented to Mahima Singh. The Chief of the Army Staff rolling Trophy for the best all round student for the year 2009-2012 was presented to Tanya Sinha. <br /><br />The BSc (FAD) students had bagged six ranks out of a possible 10 in the 2012 examinations held by the Bangalore University. Ashwaija Jadhav won the 1st rank and won the gold medal, Rani Kumari (2nd rank) won the silver medal, and Avnee Patel (3rd rank) won the bronze medal. <br /><br />Lt Gen JP Nehra, Adjutant General of the Indian Army, was the chief guest. The AIFD was established in 2004 under Army Welfare Education Society (AWES) and caters primarily to the children of Army personnel. <br /><br />AIFD offers two post graduate diploma autonomous courses on fashion designing and apparel merchandising and logistics management and a BSc, fashion and apparel design course, which is affiliated to the Bangalore University.</p>
