Bangalore Rural MP C N Manjunath urges revival of Hosakerehalli Lake

The MP wrote to the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) and Bengaluru West City Corporation based on requests from the Kerepalya Residents' Welfare Association and the Hosakerehalli Lake Conservation Forum.

Bengaluru: Bangalore Rural MP Dr C N Manjunath has written to civic authorities seeking rejuvenation of Hosakerehalli Lake.

He wrote to the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) and Bengaluru West City Corporation based on requests from the Kerepalya Residents' Welfare Association and the Hosakerehalli Lake Conservation Forum.

Pointing out that the lake is filled with silt and weeds, he sought installation of a sluice gate for flood mitigation, desilting, creation of walking tracks and planting of saplings along the boundaries to protect the waterbody.

The letter, carrying petitions from the two associations, requested GBA Chief Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao to issue suitable directions to the zonal engineers concerned. 

The associations said rejuvenation would benefit residents of Srinivasa Nagar, Krishnappa Layout, Hosakerehalli, Durgaparameshwari Nagar and Pushpagiri Nagar, among others.

"The lake has been in a pathetic condition since 2015 due to apathy and neglect. We had requested the officials to accord permission for undertaking volunteer activities. Regrettably, so far, no such permission has been given," the Hosakerehalli Lake Conservation Forum said in its letter to the MP.

Some residents said the corporation or the GBA should allow rejuvenation through CSR funds if funding is a constraint.
