BBMP to get new chief commissioner

Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will get a new chief commissioner by April-end, for which multiple names are doing the rounds.

Senior IAS officer Tushar Girinath, who held the top civic post for nearly three years, is likely to be moved to the Urban Development Department (UDD) as Additional Chief Secretary. He will replace SR Umashankar, who will superannuate end of the month.

Among the names doing the rounds are that of Maheshwar Rao, Managing Director at the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), and Major Manivannan P, Principal Secretary at the Social Welfare Department.

There is also a strong buzz that the government may give additional charge to a senior official until it decides on a name for helming the BBMP’s top position.
