Bengaluru college professor objects to littering, assaulted by trio; suspects arrested

Bengaluru: A college professor was allegedly assaulted by three men after he objected to their littering on the road in southern Bengaluru.

The police have arrested the suspects involved in the incident, which occurred on April 21. The police said the trio was throwing garbage, including a glass bottle, from a car outside the Dayananda Sagar Institutions campus in Kumaraswamy Layout around 4.15 pm.

Prof Arobindo Gupta, who teaches at Dayananda Sagar, objected to their behaviour. This triggered the three men, who then assaulted the professor, in his 40s, while he was riding a motorcycle.

A hospital memo seen by DH stated that Gupta was attacked with a helmet, punched in the face, and sustained injuries. The hospital informed the police after beginning his treatment.

Gupta also released a video about the incident.

"This is the result of protesting against littering on the road," Gupta said in the video seen by DH, in which he also showed his facial injuries.

"I protested against their littering, as their actions could have caused my motorcycle to skid. Two people held me while the other hit me with a helmet and punched me. Such hooliganism shouldn't be tolerated," he added.

A case of hurt was registered, and the police tracked down and arrested the trio.

They were identified as Bhanuprasad, 26, Sharath, 23, and Amruth Kumar, 24 — all residents of Bengaluru.
