Bengaluru South Corporation cracks the whip on vendors encroaching walkways, corridors of Jayanagar shopping complex

Bengaluru: The Bengaluru South City Corporation (BSCC) has registered 39 cases and imposed fines totalling Rs 88,200 on vendors who encroached upon walkways, stairs, and corridors in the Jayanagar Shopping Complex.

The action was taken after the BSCC received multiple complaints from the public, stating that shop owners and vendors had encroached upon corridors, walkways, and public spaces within the complex, obstructing pedestrian movement.

Following the complaints, the corporation issued warnings to shop owners.

"Based on public complaints, the corporation had been continuously creating awareness over the last three days, urging shop owners within the commercial complex to voluntarily clear the unauthorised encroachments beyond their allotted areas," the statement said.

On Tuesday, action was taken against those who continued to encroach upon public spaces despite multiple warnings.

BSCC Commissioner KN Ramesh said the corporation would cancel the trade licences of shop owners who encroach upon public spaces in future.

"A clear warning has been issued to all shop owners in the commercial complex, conveying the message that the encroachment of public spaces will not be tolerated under any circumstances. This special operation will continue until all encroachments are completely cleared," he said.
