Bengaluru: Bengaluru East traffic police are sending notices to the employers of techies committing traffic violations along ORR and the surrounding areas.

This initiative has been taken to prevent congestion along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) during peak hours and the suggestion for the same came from a few companies located along ORR.

Speaking to DH, Kuldeep Kumar R Jain, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), East Traffic, said the initiative was taken up on a trial basis and would soon be extended based on its outcome. Kuldeep said, “To avoid traffic congestion and curtail commute time, many techies working in the companies along ORR are violating traffic rules, causing traffic congestion and making traffic management a tough task, hence the suggestion was adopted.”

According to police, many techies were jumping traffic signals, driving on the wrong side and violating the one-way rule just to avoid traffic and reach their offices on time. As a result, traffic management became more difficult and triggered slow-moving traffic.

How does this work?

When people, in this case, a techie -- violates any traffic rule-- the cops intercept and fine them. During the process, the cop would collect basic details of the techie about where he works and how long he has been working there. Using this information, the cops then send a notification to the company where the techie works via email or a post. The company would further inform or advise the employee to refrain from violating traffic rules.

Why the ORR stretch?

According to police sources, it was observed that most of the peak-hour traffic violations were by techies, working in companies located along the ORR. It was only after this became a regular feature, did the traffic police float the idea to companies and began implementing the same. So far, this suggestion has been adopted and implemented by only by the East Division traffic police. It would be assessed whether this idea has helped curtail traffic violations. If it is found to be successful, then it would be replicated in other traffic divisions.
