Bengaluru wall collapse: Two corporation engineers suspended

Bengaluru: The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) on Thursday suspended executive engineer Mohammed Javed and assistant executive engineer Rudramuni of the Bengaluru Central City Corporation following the collapse of a compound wall behind Bowring Hospital that killed seven people.

The suspension order, issued on April 30, 2026, cites negligence and dereliction of duty, blaming the engineers for failing to ensure the safety of pedestrians who had taken shelter next to the wall during rain.

Pending a detailed departmental inquiry, both officers have been suspended with immediate effect.

The order, issued under the Karnataka Civil Services rules, states that further action will depend on the inquiry’s outcome.

The compound wall belongs to the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University and Research Centre, which comes under the Health Department.
