Bengaluru's Anekal residents deplore poor state of local roads

Bengaluru: Hundreds of residents from Anekal Taluk staged a massive walkathon protest on Saturday, highlighting the deplorable state of local roads that they claim has left commuters suffering for nearly two decades.

Over 500 people, gathered under the banner of Anekal Taluk Civil Struggle Committee and various joint organisations, marched from the ASB Government College Grounds to the Anekal tahsildar office to submit a memorandum.

The protest brought to light the daily plight of lakhs of residents, including workers from nearby IT companies, who commute on severely potholed roads. The memorandum pointed out that despite local bodies receiving crores in taxes, the government has failed to provide basic amenities. 

“Many people have fallen from vehicles and met with accidents. They are also suffering from respiratory diseases due to the dust emanating from the roads,” the memorandum stated, noting that the poor conditions delay ambulances in emergencies and prevent farmers from accessing the APMC fruit market. Anekal Tahsildar, Shashidhar Madyal received the memorandum.
