Bengaluru’s first double-decker flyover at Silk Board nears completion, to be fully operational by February end

Bengaluru: The city's first double-decker flyover at Silk Board Junction is nearing completion.

The Rs 449-crore project, aimed at easing traffic congestion, is expected to be fully operational by the end of February.

While major portions of the flyover opened in 2024, one stretch was delayed due to the installation of a 42-metre steel bridge over the existing roadway.

Workers are finishing the concrete slab casting, with BMRCL officials aiming to complete civil works by the end of February.

The flyover, connecting HSR Layout with BTM Layout, faced delays in installation of a 42-metre steel girder over the existing infrastructure. Its near completion has now raised hopes among commuters about its opening.

"I travel from Banashankari, and Silk Board is the worst part of my journey. Even a 10-minute reduction in wait time would be a reward. Silk Board is a nightmare every evening. If this ramp opens, vehicles towards HSR and Hosur Road will move faster. Right now, everyone is bunched at the same signal, which makes no sense," said Lavanya K, an officegoer.

Once operational, the flyover will allow traffic to bypass Silk Board Junction, reducing congestion.

"Avoiding the signal from Silk Board to BTM Layout will be a huge relief," said Vijay Das, a regular commuter.

"The flyover from the Banashankari side is already operational and helpful, but this HSR connection is the missing link," said another commuter.

Final stages: BMRCL 

BMRCL officials said the work is in its final stages, with the completion date pending police verification.

"Once the contractor finishes the final touches, the traffic police will inspect the structure before it opens to the public," said a BMRCL official.

DCP Gopal M Byakod (Traffic, South) confirmed the flyover will be fully operational by the end of February, easing congestion from Central Silk Board Junction to BTM Layout, HSR Layout, and Bellandur.
