'Didn't you say I love you?' Bengaluru college professor booked for harassing students

Bengaluru: Students at a Bengaluru college thrashed an assistant professor after he allegedly sexually harassed female students and proposed to one of them. 

Abdul Rehman Sharif, a faculty member in the Microbiology Department at Siddhartha Institute of Medical Sciences in T Begur, Nelamangala is accused of improper behaviour and sexual harassment.

The students reported him to the principal, Devakar SV, who lodged a complaint with the Nelamangala Rural police. 

Sharif has been booked under BNS sections 74 (assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 75 (sexual harassment) and 329 (criminal trespass). An investigation is underway.

According to the FIR, the college management issued a notice directing the assistant professor to appear for an inquiry and instructed him not to enter the campus.  

However, he allegedly arrived at the campus on March 23, where he "forcefully held the student's hand and behaved inappropriately", causing panic among students and spoiling the campus atmosphere, the FIR adds. 

Meanwhile, two videos of the assistant professor have surfaced on social media. 

In one, he is purportedly seen addressing the class and claiming that a student from the batch had proposed to him and that he, too, loved her. The student, however, rejects his claim. 

"Didn’t you say 'I love you?' Didn't you say that?" he is heard asking the student. 

He also claimed to have CCTV footage to back his claim, but the girl demands to see it. 

Police sources added that Sharif had also brought a carton of chocolates to distribute among the class. 

In another video, the agitated student is seen hitting the assistant professor with her chappals, while others join in verbally abusing and assaulting him. 

The FIR, however, does not mention either incident. DH could not independently verify the videos.
