East Bengaluru: Commissioner inspects roads, lakes, underpasses & infrastructure

Commissioner of Bengaluru East City Corporation D S Ramesh recently conducted a field inspection in areas such as Horamavu Agara, Banjara Layout, Kalkere Layout, Babusapalya, and Challakere to review road and infrastructure development works, railway underpass works, lake development, waste management, and footpath encroachments.

During the inspection, the Commissioner interacted with representatives of Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and local residents, and directed officials to take immediate action to resolve the issues raised.

Babusapalya Railway Underpass

The Babusapalya RUB work has been delayed due to land disputes between private parties and the Railway Department. The Commissioner instructed railway officials to ensure that there are no legal stay orders and to immediately resume and complete the pending works at the earliest.

Horamavu Agara Lake

A maintenance tender has already been issued for Horamavu Agara Lake. Officials were directed to take up cleaning and maintenance works at the earliest. Local residents requested facilities such as toilets, benches, walkways, lawns, and other amenities.

Officials were instructed to prepare estimates for these works and allocate necessary funds in the next budget.

Agara Lake Road work underway

Agara Lake Road, being a low-lying area, faces frequent waterlogging during the monsoon. To address this, road level improvement works have been taken up. Due to a bitumen shortage, asphalting work has been delayed. The Commissioner directed officials to complete asphalting immediately after the hot mix supply becomes available.

Banjara Layout main road

Due to uneven road levels and silted drains, rainwater does not flow properly into drains, causing water stagnation on the road during the monsoon. Officials were instructed to immediately undertake desilting of side drains. A drain construction project of about 500 metres has been planned, and officials were directed to construct a drain on the opposite side of the road as well.

Kalkere Lake development

Ongoing development works at Kalkere Lake were inspected. Since the contract period has expired, officials were instructed to take action against the contractor for the delay. Directions were given to install an information board displaying complete project details at the lake entrance. Damage caused to certain facilities due to BWSSB sewage pipeline issues was noted, and officials were instructed to undertake necessary repairs.

Mechanical sweeping machines

At the Horamavu Underpass, the commissioner inspected the functioning of mechanical sweeping machines and directed officials to prepare a plan to deploy such machines under a three-year contract.
