Ensure there is no water scarcity this summer, Girinath tells BWSSB

Bengaluru: Senior officials from the Urban Development Department (UDD) have directed the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) to ensure that there is no water scarcity in Bengaluru this summer.

Tushar Girinath, Additional Chief Secretary, UDD, who chaired a review meeting on Tuesday, stressed the importance of taking preventive measures.

"Since the IISc report indicates that groundwater levels may decline in certain areas, it is important to act before the situation goes out of hand,” he said.

He also instructed officials to ensure that all RO drinking water plants in the city are serviced and fully operational. In addition, he directed them to expedite the process of facilitating more applications for BWSSB connections.

“Assign an engineer to oversee water supply in the 65 wards that are expected to witness a dip in groundwater levels,” he said.

BWSSB Chairman Ram Prasath Manohar V said the board is prepared for the summer. “We have taken the IISc report seriously and made adequate preparations to ensure there is no water shortage this summer,” he said.
