Five arrested for robbery in Bengaluru; pistol, valuables worth Rs 2.5 lakh seized

Bengaluru: The Madanayakanahalli police have arrested five people in connection with a robbery case and seized valuables worth Rs 2.5 lakh, along with a pistol allegedly used in the offence.

The arrested have been identified as Ankith Nath, 30, a samosa vendor; Anoop Singh, 30, a garment shop worker; Ravi Rao, 28, a jewellery maker; Anoop Ram, 23, a waiter; and Arun, 31, a daily wage worker. They are all natives of Rajasthan.

According to the police, the owner of Ramdev Jewellers and Bankers in Dasanapura village lodged a complaint on January 27. He stated that on the evening of the incident, when two children were inside the shop, a man entered and asked to see earring designs on his mobile phone.

While they were conversing, another person entered the shop and allegedly threatened them with a pistol. A third accomplice then entered, stole gold earrings, nose pins, gold chain beads and Rs 50,000 in cash from the drawer, and fled.

During the investigation, police recovered a mobile phone that had been left behind at the shop by the suspects.

“Based on technical and field investigation, and credible information from informants, one suspect was apprehended near a garment shop in Kothanur on February 2. During interrogation, he confessed to his involvement in the offence,” police said in a statement.

Subsequently, five people were arrested. One more suspect is absconding. Police are also tracing the source of the pistol used in the crime.

The recovered property includes four mobile phones, a two-wheeler and 9.1 grams of gold ornaments.
