<p>Praveen Murali (26) and Nikita Bhattacharya (23) were killed when their motorcyle rammed into the wall of a footpath near the Bengaluru International Airport (BIA). <br /><br />Praveen, a native of Kerala and resident of M S Ramaiah Nagar and Nikita from north India whose family is settled in City, were pursuing final year LLB at the M S Ramaiah College of Law, the police said. <br /><br />Both of them had dinner at the celebrations of their friend’s birthday at a hotel in Shivajinagar on Thursday night and set off on a ride towards the airport, said their friend, Mansoor, who was with them at the dinner. <br /><br />They first went to the airport. Later, while returning, Praveen took a U-turn near one of the entrance gates close to the first circle immediately after the flyover. <br /><br />He lost control and hit a kerbstone before ramming into the footpath wall. Both of them died on the spot, the police said. <br /><br />While Praveen’s body was taken to Kerala for final rites after a post-mortem was conducted Nikita’s body will be handed over once her brother arrives, the police said.<br />Devanahalli traffic police have booked a case of rash driving and causing death by negligence under Sections 279 and 304 (A) respectively of the IPC.<br /><br />Convicted <br /><br />A 30-year-old man, who had brutally murdered his neighbour for her refusal to accept his advances four years ago, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a City court. <br /><br />Venkatesh had stabbed Sunitha (30) in chest, abdomen, and back with a screw driver near the office of the Social Welfare Department in Sampangiram Nagar at 7:15 am on November 11, 2006. <br /><br />After registering a case, the Sampangiram Nagar filed a charge sheet before the Ninth Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM).<br /><br /> Later, the Ninth Fast Track Court began hearing the case. Judge Ramakrishna sentenced him to life imprisonment and slammed a fine of Rs 25,000. <br /><br />Convict arrested<br /><br />A 23-year-old convict, who had escaped from the prisoners' ward of the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (Nimhans) while under treatment last July, was arrested on Thursday. <br /><br />Anand Kumar of Virajpet taluk was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) for various offences.<br /><br /> He was admitted to the prisoners’ ward in Nimhans on July 27 after he complained of ill health. Kumar had scaled the hospital wall and escaped. A case was registered at the Siddapura police station and he was arrested at Ponnampet, Kodagu district. <br /><br />He was also produced before the Second Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM).</p>
