Greater Bengaluru Authority sets October target for Ejipura flyover

Bengaluru: The long-stalled Ejipura-Kendriya Sadan flyover has entered its “final countdown”, with officials now targeting completion by October this year following a major breakthrough on the critical St John’s Hospital stretch. This is the latest in a series of deadlines set by the authorities for the long-delayed project.

The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) on Friday said key structural works that had been stuck for years due to unresolved land issues near St John’s Hospital were now progressing on a “war footing”, after the hospital agreed in February to allow the use of its land for portal frame
construction.

In a statement, the GBA said 728 of the 762 segments had already been cast, while only 15 spans remained to be erected. Piling, ramp construction, road widening and pedestrian pathway works were also under way, alongside the acquisition of nearly 5,999 square metres of land from the hospital and other properties.

While the main carriageway between Ejipura and Kendriya Sadan is expected to be ready by October, the down-ramps at both ends may take a little longer, the contractor in charge of the project said.

The project, originally awarded to Simplex Infrastructures in 2017 for Rs 203.2 crore, saw only 42.8% progress over four and a half years before the contract was terminated in 2022. A fresh work order was later issued to BSCPL Infrastructure in November 2023.
