The High Court of Karnataka on Tuesday issued notices to the state government and others on a PIL that has challenged the setting up of a solar power plant at Punnyahalli village in Kolar district.

A division bench of Chief Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee and Justice P S Dinesh Kumar issued notices to the government, the Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Corporation, the deputy commissioner of Kolar and Solar Kind India Private Limited, an Andhra Pradesh-based company which is executing the project.

The petitioners — residents of Punnyahalli village and an advocate — said the land where the project was coming up was originally a grazing field granted to people from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SCs/STs). The law forbids the allottees from transferring the land, they argued. They also contended that the project would affect villagers and wild animals as the site is just 200 metres from a reserve forest.

KFCC election
The high court on Tuesday took up a petition that has sought its directions for holding elections to the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC).

Justice Ashok B Hinchigeri heard the petition filed by producer-cum-distributor B M Harish and issued notices to the Department of Cooperation, the district registrar and the film chamber.

Harish also sought the court’s directions for appointing an administrator to the film chamber until the election is held. He contended that the election was postponed by a year by passing a resolution on June 16, 2017, though the poll was due in June 2017.
