Husband attacks wife with knife on busy road in Bengaluru; public thrash him

Bengaluru: A 27-year-old woman narrowly escaped death after her husband allegedly tried to attack her with a knife on a busy road at Dasanapura near Nelamangala on Wednesday afternoon.

A senior police officer said the accused, Sanjay, 35, a native of Bihar, intercepted his wife Sonali while she was walking out of her house. He arrived on a bike wearing a helmet and allegedly posed as an unidentified miscreant before holding a knife to Sonali’s neck in an attempt to assault her.

A youth who witnessed the incident immediately intervened, overpowered Sanjay and rescued the woman. Hearing Sonali’s screams, local residents also rushed to the spot, assaulted the accused and later handed him over to the Madanayakanahalli police.

Police said the couple had been facing frequent domestic disputes and had been living separately for the past few months. Both were reportedly in their second marriage. Sanjay had allegedly developed an alcohol addiction, leading to regular quarrels, and Sonali’s refusal to reunite is suspected to have triggered the attack.

A video of the incident went viral on social media on Thursday. However, police said no case had been registered as the woman refused to file a complaint against her husband.
