<p>Alert traffic policemen thwarted a bid by two men to rob two employees of a reputed jewellery showroom of a bag containing Rs 50.30 lakh cash on Monday.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The police arrested one suspect, while another managed to flee. The incident took place at 11.30 am at the busy Cubbon Road Junction, police said. <br /><br />The suspect was identified as Naresh, 24, a resident of Ulsoor, and a manhunt is on to arrest his associate, Commercial Street Police said.<br /><br />Krishnamurthy C and Rakesh, both employees of Bhima Jewellers, on Dickenson Road, were asked to carry a bag containing Rs 50.30 lakh in cash to deposit the money at Dhanalakshmi Bank on Kasturba Road.<br /><br />It was a routine task with the showroom management to remit the day’s collection in the bank account, police said.<br /><br />The duo proceeded with Krishnamurthy riding the bike, while Rakesh riding pillion. They had kept the bag on the footrest.<br /><br />“Everything was fine till we approached the Cubbon Road Junction,” Naresh said. “Two men on a bike rode through the junction. Within seconds they came in front our of two-wheeler and stopped abruptly at the junction of Main Guard Cross Road and Cubbon Road. The rider was on the bike, while his associate jumped down.”<br /><br />He rushed towards Krishnamurthy and threw red chilli power into his eyes. <br /><br />Failed attempt<br /><br />However, the impact was not as the suspects had anticipated it to be since he was wearing the helmet. Realising its little impact, he took out a dagger and slashed Krishnamurthy’s face. Krishnamurthy put up a brave resistance and pushed him down, Rakesh said.<br /><br />After being pushed down, the youth laid hands on the bag at the footrest. Krishnamurthy was quick to react and held the bag with his hands. <br /><br />He kicked the suspect on the abdomen and pushed him down further, he added. Some road users raised an alarm. <br /><br />Shivajinagar traffic police station sub-inspector Munichennappa, Dhanraj, a constable and sector in charge and Jai Maruthi, a constable and junction jockey were on duty at Main Guard Cross Road Junction.<br /><br />On hearing the noise, they rushed to the spot presuming that it was a case of road rage. The rider, noticing the policemen, fled on the bike. <br /><br />The pillion rider ran across the road in an attempt to escape.However, the policemen chased and overpowered him. Rakesh also sustained injuries in the melee, police said.<br /><br />Insider’s involvement suspected<br /><br />Preliminary inquiry has revealed the involvement of an insider in the incident. <br />One of the employees of the showroom leaked the news of huge sums likely to be carried for remittance on Monday afternoon to the youth, who is absconding currently. <br /><br />Naresh was having a drink in a bar on Sunday night. <br /><br />The one who is absconding now, was sitting next to Naresh. Naresh dragged him into a conversation and asked if he was interested in completing a work on Monday which would fetch huge money and he obliged. <br /><br />The duo chalked out a plan, but failed to execute it, police said. There are definite leads and he would be arrested in a day or two, added the police.</p>
