Actor Upendra launches digital democracy platform

Citizens can log civic issues in their area, such as water and sewage problems, job issues, safety concerns public infrastructure issues, and environmental concerns, among others, on the platform.

Bengaluru: Kannada movie star Upendra launched a digital democracy platform called ‘The Real Prajakeeya’, which lets citizens participate directly in governance.

At the app's launch in the city on Wednesday, he urged people to celebrate mindful thinking on April 1, widely regarded as Fool’s Day. 

Citizens can log civic issues in their area, such as water and sewage problems, job issues, safety concerns public infrastructure issues, and environmental concerns, among others. 

Through the app, Upendra urged citizens to select a candidate for the election. Once elected as a public representative, the candidate must use the app and website to perform their duties according to the SOP (Standard Operating Procedure). 

When faced with criticism about the idea's superficiality, he said he would keep trying his best to bring about a change in society and urged everyone to give the app a chance. He added, "I will not become a leader, you should become the leader." 

In 2018, the actor launched the Uttama Prajaakeeya Party, a regional political party.
