<div>The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation has diverted some of its Mysuru-Bengaluru bus services to the Basaveshwara bus station in Peenya.<br /><br />The move is considered as an attempt to draw commuters to the Peenya bus station, which was constructed a year ago. The KSRTC is already plying Kerala-bound buses from here. It has also allowed the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation to operate its services from the new facility.<br /><br />Earlier, the KSRTC had shifted all its North Karnataka-bound operations to Peenya from Kempegowda Bus Station(KBS). However, the move did not go well with the commuters and the Corporation, after suffering a loss of about Rs 12 crore, shifted back all the operations to KBS.<br /><br />Officials said that earlier the commuters had no means to reach Peenya to catch the buses, other than taking overcharging auto rickshaws. But now, with the availability of Metro train services till Nagasandra, the KSRTC officials thought of giving the Peenya bus station one more chance to draw commuters.<br /><br />KSRTC Managing Director, Rajender Kumar Kataria told Deccan Herald that they have already started some of the Mysuru-Bengaluru schedules from the outer roads and thus the buses do not have to enter the City, thereby saving time for the commuters. “We will increase the number of buses depending on the response,” he said. <br /><br />Presently, the Kerala State Transport Corporation is operating four services to Kottayam, Kannur, Kozhikode and Ernakulam and the KSRTC is also plying two services from Peenya. The officials plan to increase this number gradually.<br /><br />The pressure on KSRTC to shift services out of the City centre is tremendous with the Bengaluru City Railway Station, Kempegowda Bus Station and KSRTC services operating within a small radius. With hundreds of private buses also being operated from the same location, traffic gridlocks had become common in this area.<br /></div>
