<p>Bengaluru: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) Special Court in Bengaluru on Monday sentenced Bangladesh national Jahidul Islam, alias Kausar, to seven years' rigorous imprisonment in connection with promoting the activities of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh India (JMB-India).</p><p>Jahidul was also fined Rs 57,000 for charges related to dacoity, conspiracy, fund-raising, and the procurement of ammunition. "With this, a total of 11 accused have been convicted in these cases," the NIA stated.</p><p>The case originated with the Bengaluru City police in June 2019, based on information gathered by the NIA during the investigation of the Burdwan blast case, handled by the agency’s Kolkata branch office. While in hiding, Jahidul and his associates were involved in the October 2014 Burdwan blast.</p><p>Following the blast, Jahidul and his associates fled to Bengaluru, where they radicalised and recruited Muslim youth from West Bengal and Assam to further the JMB's anti-India agenda. In 2018, they committed four dacoities in Bengaluru, using the stolen funds to procure ammunition, arrange hideouts, and conduct training for carrying out terrorist operations.</p>
