No permission sought or granted for 'Cockroach Janta Party Karnataka' gathering in city: Bengaluru Police

'It is hereby informed that no application has been received from any individual/organisation/political party seeking permission to conduct the above-mentioned program near Town Hall, and no official permission has been granted in this regard', the statement said.

Bengaluru: The Bengaluru City Police on Friday said that no permission has been granted for a gathering of the ‘Cockroach Janata Party Karnataka’ at the Town Hall on May 24.

In a statement, the Bengaluru City Police said that they came across a poster circulated on social media under the header ‘Cockroach Janata Party Karnataka’. The poster had an invitation to gather in large numbers at 11 am and form a “peaceful human chain”.

“It is hereby informed that no application has been received from any individual/organisation/political party seeking permission to conduct the above-mentioned program near Town Hall, and no official permission has been granted in this regard. Further, no permission has been obtained from the GBA office for the use of the said location for the programme,” the police said.

They also said that, as per a Karnataka High Court order dated August 1, 2022, protests/dharna/rallies are not permitted at places other than Freedom Park.

“Therefore, people assembling in front of Town Hall in violation of this order would amount to a clear breach of the Hon’ble Court’s directions. Hence, the public is advised not to knowingly or unknowingly forward/share the said message through social media platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Twitter, etc., and not to gather near Town Hall. This notice is issued in the public interest to create awareness about the law,” the police said.
