<p>Bengaluru: To address the mounting pendency of e-khata applications, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has decided to decentralise the process by creating 200 additional logins for assistant revenue officers (AROs) and 300 more for caseworkers.</p>.<p>This initiative aims to fast-track the issuance of e-khatas and alleviate the challenges faced by citizens.</p>.<p>BBMP Special Commissioner Munish Moudgil told DH that the civic body is prioritising e-khata-related issues following the expiration of the One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme. “Over the next 15 to 20 days, we will focus entirely on clearing pending e-khata applications and encouraging more people to apply,” he said.</p>.<p><strong>Escalating backlog</strong></p>.<p>The BBMP is currently under pressure to clear over 40,000 pending applications, with 2,500 to 3,000 new requests pouring in daily. By tripling the workforce and empowering zonal and joint commissioners to allocate additional resources, the civic body aims to expedite the process.</p>.<p>However, allegations of corruption persist. Citizens say BBMP revenue inspectors demand exorbitant bribes — up to Rs 70,000 for minor corrections and over Rs 1 lakh for processing applications.</p>.BBMP chief reschedules public meet to December 4.<p><strong>Progress & initiatives</strong></p>.<p>BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath said approximately 21,369 e-khatas have been issued to property owners so far. </p>.<p>“We are committed to clearing the pending 40,000 applications soon. About 72.96 lakh users have accessed the e-khata portal, and 6 lakh draft e-khatas have been downloaded,” he noted.</p>.<p>To improve transparency and accessibility, revenue officers are now required to be available in their offices every Wednesday from 10 am to 2 pm to address citizens’ grievances related to revenue services.</p>.<p>The BBMP’s initiatives aim to streamline the e-khata application process while combating corruption and easing the burden on citizens.</p>.<p><strong>BBMP earns Rs 4,284 cr from property tax</strong></p>.<p>The BBMP broke all its records in property tax collection as it netted Rs 4,284 crore as revenue by the end of November. A large portion of the tax came from Mahadevapura, where Rs 1,148 crore was generated as property tax, followed by East (Rs 710 crore) and South (Rs 606 crore).</p>.<p>The BBMP has set a target of Rs 5,200 crore from property tax by end of this fiscal year.</p>.<p>BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath said the One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme stands expired and the civic body would not extend it.</p>
