<p class="title">A joint director in the Department of Pre-University Education (DPUE) became the latest victim of online fraud after a man posing as an executive of an e-commerce website offered to help and made away with Rs 20,000 on Saturday.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Akash S recently cleared the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam. He bought a T-shirt from an online portal and tried to make the payment, but could not. Akash called up customer care and sought assistance. The executive, on the pretext of making the payment, sought the details of Akash’s debit card and PIN, later withdrawing Rs 20,000.</p>.<p class="CrossHead"><strong>SMS alert from bank</strong></p>.<p class="bodytext">The fraud came to light when Akash received an SMS alert from his bank about the transaction.</p>.<p class="bodytext">He tried to call the customer care executive again but the number was switched off.</p>.<p class="bodytext">After repeated attempts to contact the customer service executive, Akash realised the fraud and filed a complaint at the Malleswaram police station on Saturday.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Police registered an FIR under various sections of the Information Technology Act and are investigating further.</p>
