Have a plate of crispy chicken kababs or the different varieties of biryani at the Taj Kitchen and you can savour the taste of home-made food. What is also interesting is that there is not much oil in their dishes.

This eatery, tucked away in a small corner on Mosque Road, has been there for the last 20 years. It pleases your tastebuds and your wallet. Started by Mohammad Farooq, the place is run by Mohammad Irfaan and Kareem Lala.

This place serves non-vegetarian food and none of the items are priced above Rs 60. The ordering can be done through tokens. It is one of the few places in the vicinity that serves cheaply priced food especially beef and chicken biryani. Just one plate of this makes for a fulfilling meal which leaves no room for anything more. Irfaan asserts, “The quantity we serve here is our speciality.” The menu has an amazing array of beef and chicken items which can be eaten as a snack or as a side-dish. The non-meat eaters can treat themselves to the egg items like egg masala, omelette, burji and boiled egg. They make for an equally tasty snack. Another treat for the taste buds are the variety of rolls they serve. A must try is the sheekh roll and the jumbo roll, which are very filling.

For the people who drop in for lunch or dinner, items like Indian rice and rotis are available. The rice items include chicken, beef and egg dum biryani and also plain rice, jeera rice and fried rice. But the most commonly ordered item by everyone is the beef biryani as you do not get it anywhere else on Mosque Road. At Rs 40, it is not a bad bargain at all.

The rotis come in varieties like rumali roti and Kerala parota. Apart from this, there are even the non-vegetarian versions of stuffed parotas like keema and tandoori
parota. These are neither too big and overfilled with stuffing nor too thin but just right, keeping the flavour of the ingredients intact.

This is not all! Chinese delicacies find their place on the menu too and one can order any of the different varieties of Schezwan fried rice or the noodles coupled with pepper sticks or Manchurian Chilli.

The place is always brimming with people, like the professionals and the family crowd who come in for lunch and dinner. “I eat here almost every other day because the food doesn’t taste like outside food. So even though you eat at a restaurant, it feels like you are eating home made food,” says Gaurav, who works in Ulsoor. So any time you want to have a plate of hot kababs or beef biryani, you know where to find them. The place is open between 11.30 am and 11.30 pm. For details, call 9740412786.
