<p>As many as 23 demonetised notes of Rs 500 and foreign currencies of Europe, Dubai, Malaysia and America were found after contributions in a hundi (offering box) at Ghati Subramanya Swamy temple were counted.</p>.<p>The temple, situated on the outskirts of Bengaluru near Tubagere, Doddaballapura, earned a total of Rs 28,18,831 as offering from devotees through the hundi. The offerings also include 2 grams of gold and 1.25 kg of silver. The temple authorities counted the offerings three days ago amid police personnel, staff from Indian Overseas Bank and some devotees.</p>.<p>The temple authorities are not so surprised to find the old notes as they witness it every month.</p>.<p>“We count the hundi every month and find at least seven to eight banned notes, including foreign currencies. Some devotees, who still possess old notes, donate to temples as they cannot tear them or throw them away,” said a temple authority who wished to remain anonymous.</p>.<p>He added: “The process of getting the old notes exchanged is too tedious for us. We should write to the Religious and Charitable Endowment Trust and the state government after which the money will be deposited to the temple’s account. It is a long process. So we generally collect<br />the old notes and store them in a strong room of the temple.”</p>.<p>The temple authorities get the foreign notes exchanged through the overseas bank.</p>.<p>Out of the total sum the temple earned, the contribution through coins came up to Rs 1,11,510, which included 10, five, two rupees and one rupee coins.</p>
