<p>The ‘Home Guard Rural District’ organised the closing ceremony of the district-level sports meet and the awarding of ‘Prathibha Puraskara’ to the home guards on Sunday.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The Home Guard Bangalore Rural District office was a picture of discipline and sincerity. The event was graced by Lokayukta Dr Justice Y Bhaskar Rao.<br /><br />The one-and-a-half hour programme recognised the dedication and hardwork of the home guards. After a word of appreciation and advice from Bhaskar Rao, the event threw light on the achievements of home guards as a self-serviced organisation. <br /><br />There are about 3,000 home guards in Bengaluru assisting the police in various ways. The children of these home guards were felicitated with ‘Prathibha Puraskara’ for their achievements in the academics. Each student received Rs 3,000 from the amount <br />donated by S Sampath Raman, the president of FKCCI.<br /><br />The young boys and girls along with their parents were thrilled to have been recognised for their talent.<br /><br /> Lokamma, a dedicated home guard and a single mother of two said, “Both my kids are doing well in academics and they have been felicitated now. I am happy and thankful to the organisation for recognising us.” <br /><br /> Her son Manohar, an engineering student, added, “The recognition we are getting is an inspiration to study more. I want to study further and do my Masters in Science.” Soumya, another engineering student, excitingly said, “I am very happy. I come from a middle-class family and am glad that my parents let me study. Every parent should <br />let their children study. I am also very happy as our work is appreciated and recognised.” <br /><br />The man behind the event, B Amranath, District Commandant for Home Guard Organisation, said, “This event was organised to recognise the hard work of the home guards. It was also to show how dedicated they are as parents. I am working on getting more help from the government for all the home guards. If you are firm and <br />are doing a good deed, then everything will fall in line.
