Sartaj: My Independence Day song is Ai Vatan Ai Vatan Hamko Teri Kasam, from the movie Shaheed (1965). Whenever I listen to this song, there is a special feeling that comes from within. The lyric is so thought-provoking. It has sublime words which can move anyone. It talks about the sacrifices which a soldier can offer to his motherland.

Also, as the song is sung by my favourite singer Mohammad Rafi, it tops the list for me.
Naveen Jain: I love to listen to the song Ae Jate Hue Lamho from the movie Border (1997). There are many other beautiful songs in this movie but this song is different in terms of the impact it leaves on me. It soaks me with a feeling of gratitude towards the soldiers who work for our safety 24x7. The song is a tale of commitment and sacrifices which an army man offers to India. For him no one holds more importance than his country, not even his own family. The video itself is so heart-wrenching.

Nisha Gupta: For me, my Independence Day song is none other than Ae Mere Watan Ke logo (1963). The reasons are many. Firstly, my favourite singer Lata Mangeshkar has lent her voice to the song. Secondly, I grow up listening to it. On every Independence Day, the song was played on TV. Even at school when the flag hoisting ceremony used to take place, this song was a must. Even my father used to hum it every now and then. Thirdly, the lyrics of the song can conquer anyone’s spirit. It is said that at when Lataji sang this song live in presence of the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, it moved him to tears. Such is an impact of the song.

Vineet Rai: Ye Desh Hai Veer Jawano Ka (sung by Mohammad Rafi) from the movie Naya Daur (1957) is my favourite patriotic song. Though, I have been listening to this song since I was a child but it was only a few years ago, I got to understand its meaning. The song tells the glory of India. From tradition, to cultural, from social to political, it highlights everything great about India. With rhythm in each word, the song has a great melody as well.

Choiden Lhamu: A R
Rahman’s Maa Tujhe Salaam (1997) is a song which brings out the patriot in me. No matter if it’s Independence Day or not, this song reminds me of my nationality. It is very close to my heart and a source of inspiration. Also, as I belong to Arunachal Pradesh, which is under constant threat from China, I would like to sing this song in front of the Chinese and let them know what I feel about my nation.
