SUV owner with pending EMIs knocks down recovery agents in Bengaluru's Sadashivanagar

Two employees of a private finance firm, who were initially believed to have been victims of a hit-and-run case, were allegedly mowed down by the owner a Toyota Fortuner, which had long-pending EMIs, in Sadashivanagar.

A senior police officer said the incident was reported on December 18, 2025, around 1.50 pm on 8th Main Road in Sadashivanagar when Ramesh P (42) and his colleague Murali (45), both working as loan recovery agents with a private finance company, were riding a motorcycle when a Toyota Fortuner allegedly rammed into them from behind. Murali, who was riding the bike, sustained multiple injuries, while Ramesh suffered fractures. Both were rushed to a private hospital. 

The Sadashivanagar traffic police initially registered a case of hit-and-run. However, during the investigation, the police verified the vehicle registration number and examined CCTV footage, and learnt that the act was deliberate.

The case was then transferred to the law and order police for further investigation, and a case of attempt to murder was registered against the accused driver, who is a realtor and resident of Sankey Road.

The Fortuner was registered in the name of a private company in Vijayapura district and was later sold to a Bengaluru-based realtor, who had allegedly defaulted on equated monthly instalments (EMIs) for nearly 45 months amounting to Rs 7.2 lakh. 

On the day of the incident, Ramesh and Murali had reportedly gone to trace and seize the vehicle as part of recovery proceedings. The driver, aware of their intent, allegedly followed their motorcycle and then crashed into them before escaping.

Speaking to DH, complainant Ramesh P said that this was not the first time the driver had been involved in such an incident.

“Our manager had alerted us to be careful, as he targets recovery agents soon after they approach him for dues. Later, I came to know that he was involved in at least three similar confrontations earlier, though no formal complaints were registered at the time. I have already spent more than Rs 2 lakh on treatment myself so far and Murali was admitted as an inpatient and his ribs were broken due to the impact,” he said.
