Trio held for cheating man of Rs 28.60 lakh in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: Three people were arrested in Bengaluru for cheating a Koppal man by promising to double his money, police said.

The complainant told police that he met and befriended a person in Gandhinagar a year ago. The man, who worked in real estate, told him that a friend needed Rs 50 lakh and the money would be returned double.

The suspects took Rs 28.60 lakh from the complainant after he said that he only had that amount. They later went incommunicado.

A case was registered by the Bagalagunte police, and three suspects were arrested at Junjappa Temple in Shettihalli. Upon interrogation, they confessed to receiving money from the complainant and cheating him.

Further interrogation revealed that the suspects had cheated another person of Rs 18.50 lakh. They spent part of that money and handed the remainder to their friends for safekeeping.

Police recovered Rs 40 lakh and impounded a car used in the offence. The suspects were produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
