Two new underpasses planned

Last Updated 22 May 2011, 18:44 IST

The civic agency's new infrastructure plans came to the fore when Home Minister R Ashoka, who is also the incharge minister for Bangalore, visited the worksite of the Kadirenahalli underpass on Saturday along with Mayor Sharadamma, deputy Mayor S Harish and Palike officials, following complaints from residents and commuters about inordinate delay in the work.

Speaking on the occasion, Ashoka said heavy traffic flow at Banashankari necessitated an underpass.

Ashoka asked Palike Commissioner Siddaiah to blacklist the contractor, executing the Kadirenahalli underpass, due to the delay in the work. The underpass was supposed to be finished by June this year as per the latest deadline.

Mayor’s promise

Mayor Sharadamma promised the residents that the Palike would, in future, ensure that no infrastructure project got stuck midway. Siddaiah said the Palike had levied a penalty of Rs 60 lakh on the contractor, Madhava Hitech Construction Company, for the delay.

It was, however, not clear whether any new deadline was set for the completion of the project.
