Warmer nights ahead for Bengaluru even as North Karnataka gets the chill

Bengaluru: After several days of chilly weather, Bengaluru is set to experience relatively warmer nights, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted.

On Sunday, the IMD’s Bengaluru city observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 14.9°C, which is 1.2°C below the January average. At HAL Airport, the mercury dipped even further to 13.3°C, 2°C below the monthly normal.

While cold air from North India continues to affect parts of Karnataka, particularly North Interior Karnataka, where temperatures are expected to fall below 10°C, Bengaluru will be shielded from these northerly winds.

Instead, the city will experience easterly winds, leading to a gradual recovery in night time temperatures over the next two days, explained N Puviarasan, head of the IMD Bengaluru Meteorological Centre.

The minimum temperature in Bengaluru is forecast to hover between 14°C and 15°C in the coming days.

Notably, the lowest temperature ever recorded in Bengaluru was 7.8°C on January 13, 1884, as per IMD records.
