Read these and more interesting facts about the city in the book ‘Bangalore: The Early City, AD 1537-1799’ by architect-researcher Yashaswini Sharma, which was released here on Thursday.
Yashaswini penned the book following her visit to the monuments and palaces and by interacting with historians and citizens, besides researching on old Bengaluru.
She said, “I had conducted the research between 2007 and 2012 on old Bengaluru, as part of my MPhil programme. This book is for all those who want to understand the city’s development and aspects such as architecture and settlement pattern of its earliest urban areas.” Yashaswini, a resident of Malleswaram, said old Bengaluru was well-organised and self-sustaining.
“Back then, there were more than 1,000 tanks and water was supplied using the natural slope of the terrain and people used wooden troughs to draw water. There were no garbage dumping yards,” she said.
