Woman guard falls on metro track, survives

Last Updated 20 November 2018, 01:54 IST

A woman security guard fainted and accidentally fell on the railway track at the Swami Vivekananda Road metro station around 8.30 pm on Monday, disrupting train operations on the Purple Line for about 15 minutes.

Metro officials activated the emergency trip system to stop the power flow to the third rail situated next to the track between Halasuru and MG Road. “She has been rushed to a hospital, where she has regained consciousness,” Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) public relations officer B L Yashwanth Chavan.

It was sheer luck that the woman did not come in contact with the third rail that carries 750-volt power, which would have led to a tragedy.

This also delayed several trains. “Some trains had to be terminated at the MG Road metro station. All passengers were deboarded until the restoration of the power supply, which took 11 minutes,” Chavan said.

Trains on both sides were delayed for about 15 minutes as officials took steps to avoid bunching of trains on the same tracks.
