Bagalkot: The BJP is ripping a big hole in the pockets of citizens under the garb of inflation, charged All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala in Bagalkot on Wednesday.
.
Exhorting people to beware of ‘pickpockets’ in the BJP, Surjewala said, “April 1 is called Fool’s Day. Although it is not so in our culture, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has certainly decided to make fools of everyone starting today.”
.
Pointing to the hike in the prices of commercial LPG cylinders, the rate of which has increased by Rs 200, Surjewala added, “The price of petrol and diesel is also spiralling upward, while the toll on national highways has also been increased. In the past five years, Rs 43,000 crore has been collected in toll from Karnataka alone. There is a warning sign at bus and train terminals asking people to beware of pickpockets. Similarly, the people must be wary of the BJP-led central government.”
.
He sought to remind the people that the price of an LPG cylinder had been Rs 400 when the Congress demitted office at the Centre. “It has now risen to Rs 913. God alone knows how much further it will rise after April 9. Air fares have also soared, much to the dismay of those travelling on work or to pursue their higher education. Air travel will soon be out of reach for the common man,” said Surjewala.
