Big Cat Alliance Summit in Karnataka: Exchange of ideas on wildlife protection; field visit on Day 2

Gundlupet (Chamarajanagar dist): Discussions on protection of wildlife, interaction and a forest visit were held on the second day of the Big Cat Alliance Summit, that was held for the conservation of big cats in the world, at Melukamanahalli, Bandipur Tiger Reserve in Gundlupet taluk of Chamarajanagar district on Tuesday.

In all, 39 representatives from 23 countries participated in the event, where they exchanged ideas and discussed technical issues related to the conservation of big cats. In the afternoon, the delegates visited the forest area and gathered details on wildlife conservation and habitat management.

They also interacted with forest guards at anti-poaching camps and at check posts. They also viewed the solar operated borewells, its uses and visited grassland areas. They involved in removing invasive species like Lantana and others.

They also visited the Command Centre established to prevent man-animal conflict. The participants also interacted with the elephant and leopard task force members.

P Ramesh Kumar, Project Tiger Director, explained about the ecosystem and animal habitats.

The valedictory ceremony of the summit will be held on February 11.
