A man died on the spot and 17 others sustained injuries when an RCC slab collapsed while watching a bull race at Kuppagudde village in the taluk on Monday.
According to police, the deceased has been identified as Gadeshappa (60), a resident of Neralige village, who was inside a petty shop when the incident took place.
It is said that around 50 villagers were watching the race standing on the RCC slab of an under-construction building. Due to the overweight, the slab collapsed situated near the building. Gadeshappa died on the spot and the others sustained injuries. The condition of the two persons - Manjunath and Shivanandappa - is said to be critical and they are undergoing treatment in Shivamogga. The rest of them are undergoing treatment in Sagara, Shikaripura and Soraba hospitals.
