Bureaucrats can now fly business class

A Government Order to this effect has been issued on May 26.  Accordingly, Cabinet rank ministers, those holding the status of Cabinet ministers and heads of all departments and chairmen of all public sector undertakings can fly business class.

All other economy orders like restriction on holding meetings at star hotels, cut down in expenses for stores, stocks, furniture, fixtures, water, power and telephone charges, use of fuel and purchase of vehicles and freeze on recruitment will continue.

The State Government had clamped the economy measures in October 2008, as the monster of economic slowdown started affecting the economy. The Union Government too has relaxed the economy orders with respect to travel recently.
