<p>Davangere: In a first in the state, civic workers will be taking part in the Independence Day parade in Davangere. Of the 30 civic workers shortlisted by the Davanagere City Corporation (DCC) police have selected 25 for the parade.</p>.<p>Confirming the representation of civic workers in this year’s Independence Day parade, Davanagere Deputy Commissioner G M Gangadharaswamy told <em>DH</em>: “We decided to have civic workers in the parade with the intention of showing our respect to their tireless service. They wake up early in the morning, and are engaged in a wide variety of tasks – collecting waste, sweeping, cleaning drains, etc – that are crucial to keeping our cities clean, and for public health. Regional Commissioner Amlan Aditya Biswas, Davanagere District In-Charge Minister S S Mallikarjun, and DCC Commissioner Renuka took the decision to feature civic workers in the parade.”</p>.Independence Day flower show at Lalbagh to feature Rani Chennamma, Sangolli Rayanna.<p>DCC Commissioner Renuka said that the police had chosen the 25 civic workers on the basis of physical fitness. “The workers selected by the police are involved in waste collection – loaders, helpers, and drivers. Police personnel are training them at <br>the DAR Grounds,” Renuka told <em>DH</em>.</p>.<p>In addition to civic workers, police, personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services Department, home guards, schoolchildren, NCC cadets, Scouts and Guides, will participate in the march past, she added.</p>.<p>Eastern Range IGP Ravikanthe Gowda told <span class="italic">DH</span>, “We are showing our respect to the civic workers for the work they are discharge every day. For the past 15 days, they are being trained in march past and salute to the dignitaries and the National Flag during the parade.”</p>
