Clash in Kodagu district prison: Undertrial prisoner suffers critical injuries

Madikeri: An undertrial prisoner suffered critical injuries following a clash between two prisoners at Kodagu district prison on Monday.

According to sources in the jail, an altercation broke out in the morning between Rajesh, a resident of Srimangala in Ponnampet taluk who has been lodged in the prison for nearly two years, and Hemanth, who was recently admitted to the jail.

The verbal argument reportedly escalated into a physical fight, during which Rajesh allegedly attacked Hemanth with a sharp weapon, causing serious injuries.

Hemanth, who sustained critical injuries, was shifted to a hospital in Mysuru for advanced treatment. Rajesh, who was also injured in the incident, was admitted to the District Hospital in Madikeri.

Both inmates were lodged in the prison in connection with murder and attempt to murder cases. It is not yet known whether there was any prior enmity between the two.

A case has been registered at the Madikeri Rural Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
