<p>There should be co-operation in politics, but politics should not be there in co-operation, said District in-Charge Minister Suresh Kumar. <br /><br />He was speaking after inaugurating the centenary celebrations of the Chikmagalur Town Co-operative Society at the DCC Bank Hall here on Tuesday. He said that the co-operative movement has gained momentum in the recent years. “People’s faith in co-operative sector should be increased. Members in co-operative societies should not take any decisions, which are against the interests of the people,” he suggested. <br /><br />Talking about the Chikmagalur Town Co-operative Society, the Minister said that the organisation could record progress as the presidents had the co-operative mentality in them. “It is a matter of pride that the society has emerged as the fourth oldest co-operative society in the State,” he lauded and called upon members to strive to reach the benefits of the society to more people. <br /><br />Karnataka State Cooperative Federation President G T Deve Gowda said that co-operative societies have been given autonomy. “All of us have the responsibility of preserving the autonomy,” he added. <br /><br />People, who raise voice against the rise in milk price do not react if the water cess was hiked. “Earlier there were innumerable people, who were serving for the co-operative sector honestly. However, it is unfortunate that politics has entered into the sector. <br /><br />Co-operative societies should not be a platform for politics,” he added. <br /><br />MLA C T Ravi laid the foundation for the second floor of the bank building, while DCC Bank former President S L Bojegowda released the souvenir.</p>
