Conduct railway dept exams in Kannada, Nikhil Kumaraswamy urges Somanna

Bengaluru: JD(S) youth leader Nikhil Kumaraswamy has appealed to Union Minister of State for Railways V Somanna to conduct the South Western Railways exams in Kannada.

In a letter to the minister, Nikhil mentioned that the Limited Departmental Competitive Examinations conducted by the South Western Railways to get promotion for the post of Goods Train Manager, scheduled this month, is only in Hindi and English. “Allowing only English and Hindi has caused anxiety among local employees,” Nikhil stated.

He further stated that the notification issued by the department, in August 2024, clarified that there was a provision to conduct exams in local/regional languages. “Despite having its head office in Karnataka, the South Western Railways ignoring Kannada is not acceptable,” he added.

Nikhil has urged the minister to issue a permanent Government Order on conducting such exams even in Kannada in the future.
