<p>Kalaburagi: The desecration of Sangolli Rayanna’s statue by pelting stones has triggered protests in Aland on Wednesday.</p><p>The police officials have detained the suspected person who reportedly pelted stones in an inebriated state.</p><p>People belonging to various Kuruba community organisations blocked the main road near the old check post circle in the town urging the police officials to initiate strict action against the miscreant.</p><p>The right portion of the statue has been damaged after the accused pelted stones at it on Wednesday morning. Sangolli Rayanna Brigade youth unit and other Kuruba community leaders got on the street demanding the immediate arrest of the culprit.</p><p>The protesters blocked the Aland-Kalaburagi and Aland-Solapur main roads for<br>an hour, causing inconvenience to the movement of vehicles.</p><p><strong>‘Motive must be known’</strong></p><p>Community leader Beeranna Bhusanur said, the motive behind the act of disrespect shown to patriotic figure Sangolli Rayanna should be known. He demanded that legal action should be taken against the accused.</p><p>KMF President R K Patil visited the spot and urged the police officials to prevent such incidents that disrupt harmony and peace in Aland taluk. He promised to assist in the installation of a new statue of Sangolli Rayanna at the same location.</p><p>Kuruba leader Mahantappa Pujari said, the statue of the prominent patriotic warrior Sangolli Rayanna should be erected at the centre of the check post circle with CCTV cameras installed at the venue to ensure protection against such incidents.</p><p>CPI Prakash Yatanur said, the person who pelted stones at Rayanna’s statue is a resident of Belamagi village and is being interrogated. Preliminary findings suggest that the act was committed under the influence of alcohol, he added.</p><p>The protesters submitted a memorandum to DySP R Gopi on the occasion. CPI Prakash Yatanur and PSI Kodla beefed up security in the town as a precautionary measure. </p><p>Kuruba community leaders Siddu Pujari, Beeranna Vagge, Apparao Pujari, Bhimanna Aland, Prabhakar Mantagi, Nagaraj Ghodake, Mallikarjun Bolani, Sharanabasappa Narone, Mallikarjun Togare, Shashikant Niragudi and Malappa Pujari participated in the protest.</p>
