<p>There is lack of civic sense among the people. <br /><br /></p>.<p>To create awareness on cleanliness, the Sri Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Programme (SKDRDP) will organise a campaign, said Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari D Veerendra Heggade. <br /><br />Speaking at the cleanliness and Pragathi chintana programme organised by Sri Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Programme in association with the CMC, here on Wednesday, he said all of us should take a pledge to bring about changes in the country. One can lead a peaceful life when the change comes from within. <br /><br />“An organisation should help an individal to develop. Only when an individual is pure from within, he can see Lord,” he said. <br /><br />He said the SKDRDP has been implemented in 11 districts with 18.81 lakh members. The members have saved a sum of Rs 97.82 crore in the last one year. The business transaction carried out these groups is worth Rs 2,400 crore.<br /><br />“Hard work brings success in life. All the citizens should strive to make Chikmagalur a clean town in the country atleast by next year,” he said. <br /><br />MP Jayaprakash Hegde said people often discuss on the rights which are bestowed on them. But do not discuss on the duties which they have to perform as a citizen of this country. Every individual should strive to create good environment. The cleanliness drive should begin from home. <br /><br />He said the SKDRDP haschalked out several programmes for the empowerment of women, which is a laudable effort. <br /><br />MLA C T Ravi flagged off National pension scheme and said “we are planning to allot site for the SKDRDP to carry out its activities in the district. A sum of Rs 5 lakh would be given from MLA Fund for the building.” MP too announced amount from his MP fund for the building. <br /><br />MLC Gayathri Shanthe Gowda said there is a need to free the district from open defecation. <br /><br />Chikmagalur CMC President Premkumar said citizens’ committee has been constituted in 18 wards in the CMC limits. <br /><br />CMC Commissioner H G Prabhakar, SKDRDP Project director Jayaram Nellithaya, Coir Development Board President Rekha Huliyappa Gowda and others were present. <br /></p>
