Dharwad gears up for another protest seeking govt jobs

Dharwad: Much before the ongoing protest seeking separate corporation for Dharwad is winded up, another similar Satyagraha demanding recruitment in government departments is on the anvil in Dharwad.

Social activist and High Court Dharwad Bench Bar Association president B D Hiremath has warned that if the government does not fix a time for discussions regarding the commencement of the recruitment process as demanded by job aspirants, a Satyagraha for truth and justice will begin from June 9.

Addressing a press conference in Dharwad on Monday, he said that the responsibility of scheduling the meeting with the government should be taken up by the deputy commissioner and the police commissioner. “We are prepared to wait for talks until June 8. If no meeting is arranged by then, the agitation will begin even if the police do not grant permission,” he said.

He pointed out that although the state government has decided to undertake recruitment, the process has not yet commenced and the final notification has not been issued. As a result, unemployed youth are becoming increasingly agitated.

He clarified that the Uttara Karnataka Vikas Vedike, in association with Akhila Karnataka Students’ Association (AKSA), would organise the protest to represent the voices of job seekers.

The protest was originally planned for June 3, but the police denied permission. “The police claim they were hurt by the conduct of the protesters. Likewise, the youth are hurt because recruitment has not taken place,” he remarked.

Hiremath further stated that the new chief minister is set to assume office on June 3. Following that, the state government should arrange a meeting with the chief secretary and the chief minister to discuss the issue. He reiterated that the deputy commissioner and police commissioner should take responsibility for facilitating such talks.
