<p>Superintendent of Police Abhishek Goyal has said that he has submitted a proposal to augment the number of staff in Naxal-infested stations of Venoor, Punjalkatte and Belthangady. <br /><br />Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday, he said he has sought one additional PSI, two ASIs, 25 constables to each police station. There are 133 vacancies of constables lying vacant in the district. The district police are serving with 66 per cent of the sanctioned strength, he added. <br /><br />The SP said that he has also written to the government to provide him the power to appoint 24 special police officers in Belthangady. In fact, the Karnataka Police Act makes a provision for the SP to appoint special police officers in case of any problem in a particular area. The special officers will be trained to carry out patrolling, look into the traffic and so on. This will help other police personnel to concentrate on other major issues. The special police officer post will not be a permanent post. <br /><br />However, they will be given remuneration. The proposal aims at providing employment to the youth in Naxal-infested areas of Belthangady taluk, he added. <br /><br />To a query on the proposal for setting up of police station at Dharmasthala, he said that the DK police had sent the proposal to the government way back in 2007. Later, the reminder was sent 2010 and the proposal was once again sent in 2012. <br /><br />Saujanya rape case<br /><br />To a query on Saujanya’s rape and murder case, the SP said that the vaginal swab and blood samples of the victim and the accused have been sent to the forensic laboratory. <br />As the report will be delayed, the police will start filing the chargesheet against the accused Santhosh. <br /><br />The physical examination of Santhosh has revealed that he had a forceful intercourse. The accused Santhosh has revealed that he had raped and murdered Saujanya. Though, he was suffering from paranoid schizophrenia, he was physically well built man, the SP added. <br /><br />On the family of Saujanya demanding CoD inquiry into the case, the SP said “if the family gives it in writing, we are ready to hand over the case to any agency, for further probe.”</p>.<p>‘Combing operations against Maoists’ <br /><br />The police will start combing operations against Maoists, with inputs from the intelligence, said SP Abhishek Goyal. <br /><br />Speaking to presspersons, he said Maoists had reportedly visited Kalur in Madikeri. Kalur is 25 km away from Subrahmanya through forest route. Many a time, Maoists visit the houses. However, it never gets reported, he said. <br /> </p>
