<p>Bengaluru: Now, eggs will be served even to children in the pre-primary classes as part of the midday meal scheme. Consequently, nearly two lakh children – 1,98,270 to be precise – in the pre-primary classes studying at government and government-aided schools will now be provided eggs, which hitherto was being served only to students from classes one to ten.</p>.<p>The decision to serve eggs to the pre-primary students was taken following the spurt in admissions to these classes. Meanwhile, the Department of School Education and Literacy has also decided to serve two instead of two bananas to all children who don’t eat eggs. Meanwhile, citing the increase in the price of both eggs and bananas, teachers have urged the government to increase the sum allocated for every egg or banana. While the government is currently providing Rs 6 for the purchase of one egg or banana, the price of one egg or banana on the market has increased to Rs 6.5 or Rs 7, teachers said.</p>
