<p>Madikeri: Police have arrested five individuals, including short film director and actor NS Anil, for allegedly murdering coffee estate owner Pradeep Koyli, to fund a luxurious lifestyle and get married. The accused also stole cash and property documents from the victim.</p><p>District Superintendent of Police K Ramarajan stated that Pradeep Koyli, a native of Kannur district in Kerala, was residing alone in a house within his 31-acre coffee estate near Kongana, close to B Shettigeri in Ponnampet Taluk. With no known heirs, Pradeep became a target for the accused. On April 23, Anil allegedly murdered him and stole Rs 13 lakh in cash along with property documents.</p><p>The arrested individuals are NS Anil (25), from Mugutagere in Ponnampet, Deepak (21), from Abburukatte in Somwarpet, Stephen D'Souza (26), from Nerugalale HM Karthik (27), from Hittalamakki and TS Harish (29), from Nallur.</p>.Karnataka to 'pressurise' centre to notify Krishna Tribunal award: CM Siddaramaiah.<p>The prime accused Anil had reportedly convinced three women to marry him. One woman’s father had rejected the proposal saying Anil lacked money and property. Determined to acquire wealth quickly, Anil began looking for wealthy estate owners without heirs. Although he had met two other individuals living alone, they were not targeted as they had heirs. Upon discovering that Pradeep Koyli had no heirs, Anil befriended him under the pretext of helping sell the estate. On April 18, he even paid Pradeep Rs 1 lakh as an advance. Then, on April 23, under the guise of bringing prospective buyers, he and his accomplices Deepak and Stephen strangled Pradeep with a rope, killing him, and looted Rs 13 lakh in cash and property papers, explained SP.</p><p>According to the SP, Anil gave Rs 10 lakh from the stolen amount to the father of the woman he wanted to marry. He also gifted an iPhone to her sister and handed over Rs 1 lakh to another woman he was in contact with.</p><p>Ramarajan said the arrested Anil, had previously duped people in Bengaluru, Hassan, and Ponnampet by pretending to be interested in investment opportunities and then taking money under false pretenses. A short film director and actor, Anil had a habit of changing his appearance after committing crimes. He often wore contact lenses to alter his look. In the murder case, he deliberately avoided using his mobile phone, which made tracing him even more challenging, said the SP.</p><p>To avoid suspicion, Anil returned to the crime scene on the night of the murder, intending to bury the body and steal coffee from the estate. However, upon seeing a police vehicle at the scene, he fled to Bengaluru and stayed with another accused, Harish. The murder was discovered because the estate staff had visited the house on the day of the incident. Had the visit not occurred, Anil had planned to destroy the CCTV footage, bury the body, and steal coffee from the estate before disappearing, SP Ramarajan explained.</p>
