<p>Teaching Kannada either as first language or second language between classes I and X in schools across the state has been notified in the state gazette. The gazette notification was issued on October 21, 2017.<br /><br />DH had reported the state government’s decision in its edition dated October 16. <br /><br />Nali-Kali Kannada/Kali-Nali Kannada (Savi Kannada) has been prescribed for teaching Kannada as first language while Kali Kannada (Introductory) is for teaching Kannada as second language till class VI.<br /><br />From Class V, Kannada language textbook and Kannada second language have been prescribed for schools respectively for teaching Kannada as first and second language.<br /><br />Outside Karnataka students being admitted between Class II and IX should study the prescribed text for Class 1 during their first year in Karnataka.<br /><br />They should study the <br />textbook of Class II and continue the order during successive years.<br /><br />The government has constituted competent authorities to take action against managements that fail to implement the government order.<br /><br />They are also empowered to visit schools for inspection and initiate disciplinary action.</p>
