The Department of Youth Services and Sports and the Knowledge Commission have received an enthusiastic response for the government’s proposal to present a youth budget.
The collective view points of the public will be presented to the chief minister on Monday or Tuesday, said M K Sridhar, Member-Secretary and Executive Director, Knowledge Commission. He said he was not sure whether the government would present a separate budget for the youth.
“We, at the Commission, are also working on certain specific issues keeping the interest of youths in focus. In addition, we have received a good response from the public for our opinion survey. February 9 was the last date for the public to reply to the questionnaires which we had published in the media. We will accept the responses till Monday,” he said.
I R Perumal, Principal Secretary, Department of Youth Services and Sports said the national youth festival gave the idea for coming out with a separate budget or policy for youths. He said only two per cent of the budget is meant for the youths who constitute 41.38 per cent of the country’s population.
